Koh Rong • main hub
Sihanoukville → Koh Rong / Koh Touch
The main route to Koh Rong and the one with the widest choice of departures. Koh Touch is the island’s main ferry hub, but check whether your hotel is actually closer to Long Set or Sok San.
Cambodia island ferries
A ticket to “Koh Rong” does not always tell you where you will get off. Koh Touch, Long Set and Sok San are on different parts of the island. Koh Rong Samloem has the same problem: Saracen Bay and M’Pai Bay are not the same arrival point.
Find your hotel first. Then choose the ferry stop.
Book the exact stop
Choose your departure point, island stop and travel date. If your hotel gives you a beach or pier name, use that exact stop when it appears.

Start with the arrival stop
These are the routes most visitors start with. The important part is choosing the arrival stop that matches your accommodation.

Koh Rong • main hub
The main route to Koh Rong and the one with the widest choice of departures. Koh Touch is the island’s main ferry hub, but check whether your hotel is actually closer to Long Set or Sok San.

Koh Rong • eastern beach
A better arrival for hotels along Long Set when a direct sailing matches your date. Look for Long Set Beach or Long Set Pier rather than booking Koh Touch automatically.

Koh Rong • western coast
Sok San is on the west side of Koh Rong and has fewer direct sailings than Koh Touch. Confirm that your exact departure serves Sok San before boarding.

Koh Rong Samloem • resort side
The main ferry arrival for many Koh Rong Samloem resorts. Do not use it for M’Pai Bay accommodation unless your hotel specifically tells you to.

Koh Rong Samloem • northern village
M’Pai Bay is a separate village on the northern part of Koh Rong Samloem. Book M’Pai Bay directly when your accommodation is there.
Start with the accommodation
Koh Rong is a large island. A ticket that simply says “Koh Rong” may take you to Koh Touch even when your hotel is closer to Long Set or Sok San.
Before booking, check the hotel location and ask which ferry stop it uses. If the hotel says Long Set Pier, look for a departure that actually serves Long Set. If it says Sok San, look for Sok San Beach or the exact Sok San stop shown by the operator.
Do the same on Koh Rong Samloem. Saracen Bay and M’Pai Bay are different parts of the island.
A two-minute decision
Pick the place named in your hotel confirmation. This is a location check, not a live timetable.
Koh Touch
Look for Koh Touch, Koh Toch, Koh Rong Island Port or the exact community-pier name shown on your current booking. Confirm the location before paying.

| Sihanoukville → Koh Touch | ~40–60 min | roughly US$9–17+ | Check the exact island stop |
| Sihanoukville → Long Set | ~40–45 min on direct services | roughly US$13–21 | Book Long Set if your hotel is there |
| Sihanoukville → Sok San | ~55–60 min on dedicated services | around US$18 | Fewer direct sailings; confirm the stop |
| Sihanoukville → Saracen Bay | ~45 min on current GTVC examples | about US$12.75 | Main Samloem resort area |
| Sihanoukville → M’Pai Bay | Varies | Current inventory exists | Different part of Samloem |
| Koh Rong ↔ Samloem | ~20–45 min | roughly US$8–10+ | Search by exact pier |
| Sihanoukville → Koh Sdach | Current example ~1h45 outbound | about US$21.50 | Longer coastal route |
| Kep → Koh Tonsay | ~20 min | roughly US$8 return locally | Local boat, not the same ferry system |

Mainland departure
Sihanoukville’s ferry setup has changed over time. Current island services use the tourist-port area, while older travel pages may still refer to previous departure points or names.
Before taking a tuk-tuk or taxi, open your current booking confirmation and use the terminal shown there. If a hotel has sent you an older instruction, compare it with the operator’s current confirmation.
Search the tourist port on Maps ↗Koh Rong
The main ferries leave Sihanoukville for several different parts of the island. The arrival stop should match your accommodation.

Main hub
Koh Touch is the main tourism village and one of the most common ferry arrival points. It has the largest concentration of boats, accommodation, restaurants and services.
If a booking system shows Koh Rong Island Port, Koh Touch, Koh Toch or a community-pier label, check the map before assuming the names are interchangeable.

Eastern beach
If your hotel is on Long Set, look for Long Set in the arrival field. Some ferries serve the beach directly, so there is no reason to default to Koh Touch when a suitable sailing is available.
The same place may appear under Long Set Beach, Long Set Pier or 4K Beach. Confirm the location rather than relying on the wording alone.
View Sihanoukville → Long Set tickets
Western coast
Sok San is on the western side of Koh Rong. Direct boats exist, but there are fewer departures than to the main eastern arrival points.
Search specifically for Sok San Beach or the exact Sok San stop shown by the booking system. Do not assume a generic Koh Rong departure will stop there.

Both are on Koh Rong Samloem, but they are different parts of the island. Book the stop named by your accommodation.

Eastern resort side
Saracen Bay is the usual arrival area for many resorts. Several operators serve it directly from Sihanoukville. Check the exact pier name on your hotel confirmation; booking systems may show a more specific local station name.

Northern village
M’Pai Bay is a separate village and ferry stop on the northern side of Koh Rong Samloem. Current booking systems treat it as its own transport point.
It also has island-to-island connections, so you do not always need to return to Sihanoukville before moving between Koh Rong and Samloem.

Island-to-island
There are bookable boats between parts of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem. The exact service depends on your departure beach, arrival beach, date and operator.
Search by the specific pier rather than only the island name. A current example is M’Pai Bay → Koh Rong Island Port at roughly 20 minutes and around US$8.50. Long Set Pier → M’Pai Bay appears at roughly 45 minutes and around US$10+ in current examples.

There is no single “best” operator. The departure, stop and return fit matter more than the logo.

Search current inventoryRead the small print
A ferry sold as a direct island service can still call at another beach or village before yours. Some crossings may also use a smaller connecting boat for the final stop.
Treat the advertised arrival time as a planning estimate rather than the minute you should schedule a bus, flight or taxi connection. The same company can serve different stops at different times.
Read a ticket like a local
A booking product is useful only when its route details match the final walk to your hotel.
Start with the mainland terminal or island pier printed next to the departure time. “Sihanoukville” is a city, not a guarantee that every boat leaves from the same dock. A current ticket may name the tourist port, an operator counter or a meeting point that requires a short transfer.
Open the confirmation before leaving your hotel. If the name is unfamiliar, search it on a map and compare it with the operator’s instructions. This is quicker than trying to solve the problem after a tuk-tuk has dropped you at the wrong gate.
Read the destination after the arrow, not only the island label in the trip title. “Koh Rong” can hide a Koh Touch, Long Set or Sok San arrival. On Samloem, Saracen Bay and M’Pai Bay need the same attention.
If the accommodation confirmation names a pier that does not appear in the first search result, try the alternate spelling. Do not replace it with the busiest stop simply because that option has more times.
Look for intermediate stops, transfer notes and a difference between “direct” and “nonstop.” A boat may collect passengers at another beach before reaching yours. A ticket may also move you from a larger speedboat to a smaller local boat for the final landing.
This affects luggage, arrival time and where you wait. Keep the whole confirmation available offline in case mobile coverage is patchy at the pier.
Outbound and return legs are not always symmetrical. A departure that takes 45 minutes in one direction may be scheduled longer on the way back, and the return may use another pier name. Search the return separately if the system does not clearly show a round trip.
Save the return time before checking into the hotel. A quiet beach can make the last departure feel abstract until you remember that the road connection starts on the mainland.
Why the stop changes the trip
Koh Touch is usually the easiest place to find another boat, food or a last-minute room. That convenience is useful if you are staying there. It is less useful when your reservation is on the other side of the island and the ferry arrival is followed by a long walk, a local boat or a pre-arranged transfer.
Long Set and 4K Beach are close enough to appear together in some hotel descriptions, but the pier name attached to the ticket still matters. Ask whether the property expects you to arrive by a beach landing or through Koh Touch. The answer changes what you do with a suitcase and when you should call the hotel.
Sok San is a separate decision again. A dedicated service can save a second transfer, but there are fewer departures. If the direct sailing does not run on your date, ask the property whether they arrange a pickup from Koh Touch or another pier. Do not assume a taxi boat will be waiting.
On Samloem, Saracen Bay has more resort traffic and often more departures. M’Pai Bay has its own village rhythm and its own arrival point. Choosing Saracen Bay because it is frequent can leave you on the wrong side of the island with a transfer to arrange after dark.
For a return, the same geography works in reverse. A hotel may quote a pickup time that is different from the ferry departure because guests must walk to the pier or wait for a small local connection. Keep both times in view when building a bus connection.
The trip home
If you have a fixed bus or flight after the ferry, the return sailing matters more than the outbound one.
Weather, boarding delays and extra island stops can move the real arrival time. For an important mainland connection, choose an earlier ferry than the mathematical minimum.

Overland + ferry
Current combined products start around US$21 in booking examples.
You do not always need to buy a Phnom Penh bus and a Sihanoukville ferry separately. Current booking systems sell combined minivan + ferry and bus + ferry itineraries.
Read what the ticket includes. A listing from Phnom Penh to Koh Rong may combine the road transfer and boat under one booking, but the transfer details vary by operator.
Some itineraries combine the road transfer from Phnom Penh with the ferry to Koh Rong Samloem. These can be easier than building a tight connection yourself in Sihanoukville.
Use the exact Samloem stop from your hotel confirmation rather than buying a generic island ticket.
Overnight buses from Siem Reap can reach Sihanoukville in time for morning island ferries, but avoid an unrealistic connection unless the whole trip is sold as one protected itinerary.
From Kampot, the road transfer is shorter, but you still need enough time to reach the correct ferry terminal.
Other crossings
These routes need different planning from the main Sihanoukville island services.

Koh Sdach sits farther along Cambodia’s coast and has current speed-ferry service connecting it with Sihanoukville. A current example runs 09:45 → 11:30 with Vireak Buntham Speed Ferry at US$21.50; the return example is 12:30 → 15:25 at the same fare.
Notice that the scheduled travel time is different by direction. Do not reduce this route to one generic “two-hour ferry” estimate.
Search Koh Sdach →
Do not turn up at the main Koh Rong ferry terminal looking for a normal Koh Ta Kiev departure. Most accommodation providers arrange their own boats from the Ream area.
Ask your accommodation for the exact mainland pickup point. A local estimate is 15–20 minutes by boat and roughly US$7.50 per person, but property arrangements differ.

Rabbit Island does not use the same high-speed ferry system as Koh Rong. Boats leave from the local Kep pier and the operation is smaller.
Current local information puts the crossing at roughly 20 minutes, with daytime boats and around US$8 return as an estimate. It is not a fixed nationwide tariff.
Find the Kep boat pier on Maps ↗Before boarding
The question is sea conditions, not simply rain. During the wetter months there may be fewer sailings, delays or cancellations. The Sihanoukville island market can have reduced services around July to October; the drier and generally busier season runs roughly from mid-November into early May.
A suitcase is normally possible on the main ferries, but not every island arrival has an airport-style terminal. Keep passports, phones, medication and anything that cannot get wet in a smaller bag you can keep with you.
Do not arrive at the exact departure minute. Give yourself time to find the operator counter, exchange or confirm the booking if required, and ask which boat serves your stop. Small fast boats can feel rough; sit where the crew recommends, keep water nearby and avoid a heavy meal immediately before departure.
At the counter and on the pier
The most useful item on a ferry day is a readable confirmation with the stop name visible.
Have the booking reference open before you join the queue. Some sellers use a voucher that must be shown or exchanged; others accept the phone confirmation as the ticket. The counter is also the place to ask which departure serves your beach if several boats leave under the same operator name.
Write down the pier name in plain text. A screenshot with a long booking code is less useful when you need to ask a driver for a destination.
The arrival may be a floating pier, a wooden dock or a beach landing rather than a terminal building. Keep sandals, a dry bag and medication accessible. If the hotel says someone will meet you, keep their phone number and the arrival stop together.
Do not leave luggage in a pile until you have seen the person collecting it. Crew members may move bags between the main boat and a local transfer.
Build the day around the ferry’s scheduled arrival plus a buffer. A bus departure, airport transfer or border crossing should not depend on the fastest possible crossing. When the sea is rough, the boat may slow down; when the pier is busy, getting off can take longer than the timetable suggests.
If the connection cannot move, consider spending the night in Sihanoukville instead of forcing the last island departure.
A small preparation that pays off
Island coverage is not something to plan around. Save the booking confirmation, the hotel phone number and a map link before leaving the mainland. A screenshot should show the departure point, arrival stop, operator and booking reference without needing a login.
Keep the hotel’s beach name written exactly as it appears in the reservation. “M’Pai,” “M Pay” and an operator’s station label can look like different places when you are tired and reading quickly. Having the names together makes it easier to compare the boat ticket with the room booking.
If you change the return date, ask the seller how the new ticket will be issued. Do not rely on a verbal promise at the hotel desk if the original booking remains attached to the old date.

Questions before you pay
The short version: choose the stop before choosing the boat.
Match the ticket to your accommodation. Koh Touch is the main hub, but Long Set, Sok San, Hill Beach and other arrival points are separate places.
Yes, it is the main tourism village and one of the busiest arrival areas. That does not make it the correct stop for every hotel.
Current booking systems associate the name with the main Koh Touch area, but station labels differ. Use the map and your hotel’s instructions before paying.
Booking systems may use either name for this beach area. Treat them as labels that may appear for the same general side, and confirm the exact pier attached to your departure.
If your hotel is on Long Set and a suitable Long Set sailing is available, start there. Booking Koh Touch can add a transfer after arrival.
Search for Sok San Beach or the exact Sok San stop in your booking system. Show the crew the stop on the ticket before departure.
No. Sok San has fewer dedicated departures than the main eastern arrival points. A generic Koh Rong ticket is not enough.
No. They are separate islands with different ferry stops. Some island-to-island boats connect them without returning to Sihanoukville.
It is the main resort side and has frequent services in current inventory. It is still not the right stop for every Samloem hotel.
No. M’Pai Bay is a separate village and arrival point farther north on Koh Rong Samloem.
Hotels, operators and booking platforms do not always use the same station label. Ask the property which name to select and compare the location on a map.
Often, yes. Current inventory includes island-to-island boats, but the departure beach, arrival pier, date and operator all matter.
No. If a suitable island-to-island service is running, you can move between Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem directly.
Current examples range roughly from 40 to 60 minutes, depending on the operator, stop and sea conditions.
Current GTVC examples show about 45 minutes. Treat the listed arrival as a planning estimate.
Current examples commonly fall around US$9–17+ for main routes, with some beach-specific or combined products higher.
No. Fares can change by date, operator, stop, currency and ticket type. Check the exact travel date.
Current booking references use Vireak Buntham Speed Ferry. Older hotel instructions and travel pages may still say Buva Sea.
The current operator name is Vireak Buntham Speed Ferry, formerly referred to as Buva Sea Cambodia.
Use the terminal printed on your current booking. The island-ferry setup has changed, and older online instructions may be out of date.
Arrive with enough time to find the counter, confirm the boat and deal with luggage. There is no universal check-in rule for every operator.
Usually, yes on the main ferries, but small piers and beach landings are not built like airports. Keep essential items in a smaller dry bag.
Seat practice varies by operator and boat. Follow the crew’s instructions rather than assuming a ticket guarantees a particular seat.
Rain alone does not decide the service. Sea state, visibility and operator safety decisions matter more.
Expect delays, altered departures or cancellations when conditions are unsafe. Leave margin around fixed mainland connections.
Speak to the operator or booking platform named on your ticket. Rebooking and refund handling depends on the seller and the reason for cancellation.
Yes. “Direct” can still include an island call or a final local connection. Check the full stop pattern and allow extra time.
Choose an earlier sailing than the mathematical minimum. A short crossing can still be delayed by weather, boarding or an extra stop.
Yes. Current booking systems list combined minivan + ferry and bus + ferry products. Check the transfer details and island stop.
Some current products combine the road transfer and ferry. Select the Samloem stop that matches your hotel.
Most properties arrange boats from the Ream area rather than the main Koh Rong ferry terminal. Ask your accommodation for the exact pickup point.
Use the local boat pier in Kep. The crossing is roughly 20 minutes in current local information, with daytime services and return fares around US$8 as an estimate.
Yes. Current booking examples include Vireak Buntham service from Sihanoukville. The crossing is longer than the Koh Rong island hop.
Yes, especially when the ticket was bought well ahead or your hotel has given you a local pier instruction. Keep the booking and stop name together.
Contact the seller and accommodation as soon as you notice. Do not wait until boarding; a transfer between beaches may not be included or available.
Book the exact beach or pier when it appears. If you are still unsure, search by your hotel’s recommended ferry stop.
